Forms & delivery options

Find the kratom form that fits your preferences & needs.

For lawful adults who decide kratom is right for them, today's forms offer different advantages in flavor, convenience, preparation, portability, and value. Start with the form—then verify what is actually inside.

Choose with clear information.

This guide helps adults compare lawful options; it is not medical advice. Verify ingredients, batch testing, labeled serving information, and local law. Keep every form away from children and pets, and avoid enhanced 7-OH and synthetic or semi-synthetic kratom alkaloids.

The form catalog

Eleven ways to explore kratom—and two categories to avoid.

Each conventional form has practical advantages. A responsible label should also make it unmistakable whether the product is natural leaf, a conventional extract, enhanced 7-OH, or a synthetic or semi-synthetic derivative.

Fresh kratom leaves arranged on dark slate
01

Fresh or raw leaf

Whole fresh kratom leaves, historically chewed or brewed in parts of Southeast Asia.

Why people choose itA simple, minimally processed form that stays close to the traditional plant form and can support a deliberate tea ritual.

KEEP IN MIND

Fresh leaf is perishable, uncommon in the U.S., and naturally variable. Confirm lawful sale, botanical identity, handling, and batch testing.

Dried crushed kratom leaf in a ceramic bowl beside a tea strainer
02

Dried or crushed leaf

Whole or roughly cut dried leaf, most often prepared with hot water and strained.

Why people choose itStraightforward ingredients, easy visual identification, and a clean choice for people who enjoy brewing and straining botanical tea.

KEEP IN MIND

It takes more preparation than a capsule or premixed drink. Storage, microbial testing, traceability, and a clear label still matter.

Fine green kratom leaf powder in a ceramic scoop
03

Ground powder

Dried kratom leaf milled to a fine powder for mixing, brewing, or filling into capsules.

Why people choose itVersatile, widely available, economical, and easy to measure by weight for a repeatable personal routine.

KEEP IN MIND

Its natural bitterness and fine texture are not for everyone. Avoid inhaling dust and compare batches by measured alkaloid content, not color names alone.

Plain opaque green capsules beside kratom leaf powder
04

Capsules

Leaf powder or extract enclosed in gelatin or plant-based shells.

Why people choose itPortable, discreet, taste-free, and convenient for adults who prefer a consistent unit form without mixing a drink.

KEEP IN MIND

Read whether the fill is ordinary leaf or extract and how much each capsule contains; a capsule shell does not reveal potency.

Colorful unbranded quad-cut botanical tablets on stone
05

Tablets

Compressed kratom leaf or extract formed into compact, uniform pieces.

Why people choose itDurable, space-efficient, travel-friendly, and easy to count when the manufacturer provides clear per-tablet composition.

KEEP IN MIND

A tablet is a form, not a strength category. Verify whether it contains natural leaf, conventional extract, added 7-OH, or another alkaloid.

Amber green botanical tea in a clear glass teapot and cup
06

Tea and decoctions

Leaf or powder steeped or gently simmered in water and commonly strained before serving.

Why people choose itA familiar, customizable way to enjoy kratom that works hot or cold and pairs naturally with citrus, ginger, mint, or mild sweetness.

KEEP IN MIND

Preparation takes time. Keep the final volume clear and avoid prolonged boiling or reducing the liquid into an unknown concentrate.

Green botanical drink mix beside citrus water
07

Drink mixes and instant powders

Flavored powders or granules designed to dissolve or disperse in water.

Why people choose itFast, portable, and often more approachable in flavor than plain leaf powder, with little equipment or cleanup.

KEEP IN MIND

Check the full ingredient list for extract, caffeine, sweeteners, and added alkaloids, plus the number of servings in the mix.

Unbranded ready-to-drink botanical beverage in clear glassware
08

Premixed and ready-to-drink beverages

Prepared teas, seltzers, tonics, and other botanical drinks ready to enjoy.

Why people choose itThe easiest grab-and-go option: no weighing, brewing, or mixing, and often designed with balanced adult flavor profiles.

KEEP IN MIND

A container may include multiple servings. Confirm alkaloids per serving and per container, ingredients, lawful food status, and refrigeration needs.

Unbranded deep-green botanical energy-shot-style bottle with a black and gold leaf label
09

Liquid shots

Small-volume liquid products, commonly made with concentrated kratom extract.

Why people choose itCompact, convenient, and easy to carry, with a defined bottle volume and no loose powder to mix.

KEEP IN MIND

Small volume does not mean low strength. Favor products with measured alkaloids and avoid shots containing added or enhanced 7-OH.

Multicolored botanical chews on a ceramic plate
10

Edibles

Gummies, chews, chocolates, and other food-style kratom forms.

Why people choose itFamiliar, portable, and useful for adults who want to avoid kratom's natural bitterness or the preparation involved in tea.

KEEP IN MIND

Choose restrained adult presentation, review per-piece contents, and lock every edible away from children and pets. Avoid added or enhanced 7-OH.

Dark botanical extract resin and measured tincture droplets
11

Extracts, resins, and tincture-style liquids

Preparations that concentrate selected constituents from kratom plant material.

Why people choose itCompact and flexible, with less plant material and several liquid or solid forms for adults who prioritize convenience.

KEEP IN MIND

Concentration increases the importance of accurate measurement. Look for alkaloid content in clear units; terms such as “10×” are not universal measures.

Cautionary laboratory still life representing enhanced 7-OH
12

Added or enhanced 7-OH

Tablets, gummies, drink mixes, shots, or other products with added or elevated 7-hydroxymitragynine.

Why people choose itNo consumer advantage outweighs the current safety and regulatory concerns identified by FDA.

WHY TO AVOID IT

Avoid this category. FDA warns these products can cause serious harm and distinguishes them from the trace 7-OH occurring naturally in leaf.

Cautionary laboratory scene representing synthetic kratom alkaloids
13

Synthetic or semi-synthetic alkaloids

Laboratory-made or chemically converted kratom-related compounds, including mitragynine pseudoindoxyl, MGM-15, and MGM-16.

Why people choose itThese are not presented here as appropriate consumer kratom options.

WHY TO AVOID IT

Avoid this category. The three named compounds and covered analog forms were temporarily placed in federal Schedule I effective August 26, 2026, and should not be confused with natural leaf.

Before choosing

Five label questions matter more than “powder or capsule?”

  1. What is the actual ingredient?

Natural leaf, a conventional extract, added 7-OH, mitragynine pseudoindoxyl, MGM-15, MGM-16, another synthetic or semi-synthetic derivative, or a blend?

  2. How much alkaloid is present?

Look for measured mitragynine and 7-OH with clear units—not a vague “strength” claim.

  3. Is the report batch-matched?

The lot number on the package should match a recent, complete certificate of analysis.

  4. What else is in it?

Check sweeteners, caffeine, botanicals, medicines, contaminants, residual solvents, and undeclared ingredients.

  5. Is this form lawful at the exact address?

State, territory, and local rules may distinguish leaf, extracts, foods, beverages, synthetic alkaloids, and elevated 7-OH.

Important safety boundary

Do not use flavoring as an excuse to combine drugs.

Do not mix kratom with alcohol, opioids, benzodiazepines, sedatives, sleep medicines, cough or cold medicines, stimulants, or other psychoactive substances. Interactions are not well mapped, and combining substances can increase risk. Ask a clinician or pharmacist about your complete medication and supplement list.
